Peace Players: Basketball summer camp

CCMC member Peace Players have announced a bicommunal camp for children ages 12-15 years old from the 27 of July to the 1 of August at the Rodon Hotel in Agros. The camp is open not only to youth from all PeacePlayers teams but others interested in basketball. The camp cost for each child is €50. The camp is supported by the US Embassy’s Bicommunal Support Program and Laureus Sport For Good Foundation. PeacePlayers- Cyprus uses the game of basketball to facilitate positive dialogue and interaction between Turkish-Cypriot and Greek-Cypriot youth, with the ultimate goal being improved relations between the two communities in Cyprus. PPI-CY aims to break down social and cultural stereotypes, develop young leaders from both sides, and build community involvement and investment.  The main aim of this camp is to teach and train children in the sport of basketball. In addition, children will participate in interactive games for intercultural dialogue and peacebuilding. .Cyprus Artefact Treasure in Action project presentation

cyprusartefactsThe Year 8 students of the American Academy school in Nicosia are inviting you to a presentation at 7pm on Wednesday 1 June 2011 in the auditorium of their school marking the completion of the Cyprus Artefacts Treasure in Action project run during the school year in partnership with CCMC member the International Children’s Film Festival Cyprus and CCMC. The presentation will take the form of a drama performance with the showing of artefact books. A reception will follow.

Peace Players: Spring Basketball Tournament 7 May 2011

Peace Players-Cyprus is organising a “Spring Basketball Tournament” for youth aged 11 to 16 on Saturday, the 7th of May in Nicosia. The aim of this event is to bring children from different communities from across Cyprus together to play basketball in an inclusive and fun-filled environment. “This tournament is a great way to promote peace, and encourage Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot youth interact with each other and participate in sports. Our tournament will bring together over 150 children to play and learn with each other over an afternoon of basketball, food and music. We are very excited to have our tournament be part of the Home for Cooperation’s opening ceremonies,” said Marina Vasilara of PeacePlayers – Cyprus.  Continue reading

7th Children & Youth Film Festival 20-26 Feb 2011

CCMC member the International Children’s Film Festival of Cyprus (ICFFCY) presents the 7th edition of its Children & Youth Film Festival which this year will take place from the 20-26 February. ICFFCY is a non-profit association that has been focusing on cinema and its role in the lives of children and young people. The Festival combines films and education in a program for children, teachers and parents.  It aims to provide the audience with the opportunity to view and discuss a wide variety of films.  The selection of films is made based on their educational merit and each year international recent releases are brought to Cyprus. The Festival is divided into 4 different parts: Morning Screenings, Morning Workshops, Marathon Evening and Bicommunal Day. Visit their website at www.icffcy.org to find more information about each event, as well as a complete list of films that will be screened and their synopsis. Jumpstart Events on 9 February 2011

Jumpstart-Youth Peace Campaign in Cyprus is having two events on Wednesday 9 February. The evening starts at 7:30pm at the Fulbright Centre near Ledra Palace, Nicosia, for an event entitled Project Stories. Young panellists will be sharing their stories of how they took an idea and put it into action. Then at 10pm there will be a live musical performance by the Kafeney Quartet at Enallax Music Bar. The Kafeney Quartet is a jazz band that travels through world music. Entrance is free. Puppet Show this Saturday 27 November!

 

Come along to a San Francisco street-style Puppet Show this Saturday the 27th November 2010 at 11am at the J. William Fulbright Center, Nicosia.

Children are especially welcome! The puppet show will be in English with Turkish and Greek translation.
