6th Lemesos International Documentary Festival 3-10 August 2011

CCMC is proud to announce it is partnering with the prestigious 6th Lemesos International Documentary Festival this year, taking place between 3-10 August 2011. There is an excellent selection of documentaries this year to choose from, including Lucy Walker’s ‘Waste Land’, Banksy’s ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’, Anna Tsiarta’s ‘In This Waiting’ and more. All films will be screened in their original language with English and Greek subtitles and entrance is free. Also, don’t miss the selection of masterclasses and seminars, and the opportunity to apply for a one-on-one meeting with acclaimed director, festival programmer and lecturer Rada Sesic. CCMC will have the opportunity to show some of its work too, so stay tuned for more details shortly. Download the poster and the full programme.

KISA Film Screening to mark World Refugee Day

welcomeOn the event of World Refugee Day on 20 June, CCMC member KISA are inviting you to an event paying tribute to the day and what it symbolises. Philippe Lioret’s movie ‘Welcome’ (2009) will be screened at the event. The film tells the story of a Kurdish-Iraqi refugee and recounts the effort made ​​and difficulties encountered in trying to go from France to England in order to be reunited with his beloved one.

An open discussion will follow regarding issues affecting refugees, including among others, the current situation and future prospect for action and improvement, especially the possibility to initiate an independent all inclusive self organisation for persons with international protection status. The event will take place at 19:00 at the KISA Cultural Center at the following address:  http://www.kisa.org.cy/EN/contacts/location/index.html (48, Arsinoes Str., 1010 Nicosia). Food and drinks will be available to purchase at low prices.

AKOVA Festival to raise awareness of Domestic Violence

domviolenceAkova Women’s Association & KTAMS cordially invite you to the Akova Festival on Saturday 28 May, an activity-rich event organised as part of the “Strong Women for Strong Civil Society” project in order to raise awareness and combat Domestic Violence. Home for Cooperation opens this week!

Excitement is reaching fever pitch as we count down the days to the launch. CSO Fair in Famagusta 16 April 2011

ENGAGE are holding a full-day street fair for CSOs in Famagusta on Saturday 16 April from 10am to 9pm. The event will showcase the work of civil society organisations including exhibitions, street entertainment and music from local bands. Volunteers for the Home for Cooperation needed!

The Association for Historical Dialogue & Research (AHDR) is looking for volunteers to assist both in the lead up to and during the inauguration of the Home for Cooperation from 6-9 May 2011. Located in the Nicosia, Cyprus, buffer zone, the Home for Cooperation (H4C) provides a shared space for inter-communal cooperation and dialogue. Continue reading

‘Green Line’ film festival

CCMC’s member the Cyprus Film Archives, along with Sidestreets, announces the launch of its ‘Festival of the Green Line’ running from 27 March to 4 April 2011. This festival features a host of interesting and award winning films, including Serif Goren’s ‘The Road’, Alain Resnai’s Night and Fog, Bujar Alimani’s ‘Amnesty’ (winner of the Jury Prize, Berlin Film Festival, 2011), and Seren Yuce’s ‘Majority’ (winner of Best Debut at the Venice Film Festival, 2010). Screenings will take place at the Peace Room on Nicosia’s Ledra/Lokmacı Street, the Pallas Cinema in Nicosia, and Sidestreets Cultural Center.
