British politicians bearing brooms and plastic bags!

Many of you will have read in our newsletter yesterday that next week a group of British MPs will be in Cyprus on a clean-up operation at religious sites across the island. On 10-11 May, David Burrowes MP, Matthew Offord MP, Jim Sheridan MP, and Nick de Bois MP will be spearheading clean-ups at churches, mosques and cemeteries.

Marina Savva (marinasavva@cyprusappg.co.uk) is waiting to hear from those of you who want to participate. And here is the timetable and locations:

DAY 1 (10 May) – Cleaning of churches and cemeteries at Pigi, Peristerona and Genagra – the team will split into three groups, each one undertaking one destination, accompanied by David, Nick, Jim and Matthew

Pick up/meeting points

(1) 8:AM Statue of Freedom (at the Venetian Walls, near the Archbishopric)

(2) 9:AM approx (Saint Georgios Kontos church)

(3) 9:45AM estimated arrival at Pergamos crossing-point

Commence cleaning at 11:AM

Conclude cleaning at 2:PM

Estimated arrival time in Nicosia 3:30PM

4:30PM Pick up at the Hilton Hotel, Nicosia for Mosque visit in Limmasol with His Grace Porfyrios and Imam Shakir

5:30PM Meeting point at Limmasol Mosque with His Grace Porfyrios and Imam Shakir

(3) 9:45AM estimated arrival at Pergamos crossing-point

Commence cleaning at 11:AM

Conclude cleaning at 1:PM

Estimated arrival time in Nicosia 3:30PM.

3:30PM Visit Muslim Cemeteries at the following sites, Kivisili, Dromolaxia, Kalo Choiro, Skarinou, Kotsiatis

Pick up point at the Hala Sultan Tekke along with His Grace Porfyrios and Imam Shakir
