ENGAGE Statement marking two years since the inception of the ENGAGE – Do Your Part for Peace Project:  Two years ago, on 7 July 2009, the “ENGAGE – Do your part for peace” project, was officially launched under the United Nations Development Programme – Action for Cooperation and Trust (UNDP-ACT).  The main objective of the project was to strengthen the peace-building role played by civil society through increased collaborations, joint initiatives and policy positions, bringing the two communities closer together. The NGOs and Civil Society Initiatives for Peace from both communities of the island, strongly support the peace process in   Cyprus  .  However Civil Society recognises that more could have been achieved, while its role in supporting the process could also have been more significant in the interim interval. Today, on 7 July 2011, precisely two years after the programme’s inception, our two leaders meet again in Geneva with the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki Moon. Both leaders should use this opportunity to achieve more convergence on core issues. The Management Centre and the NGO Support Centre, two civil society organisations from both communities, supporting the development of a vibrant civil society in Cyprus, are presently bringing the ENGAGE project to fruition after two years of diligent effort. Download also the Press Release here related to the statement.
