Collaborative Media Initiative Conference 23 and 24 June 2011

The Collaborative Media Initiative (CMI) two-day conference entitled ‘Collaboration in Media: Sharing experiences, Paving the way for the future in Cyprus’, took place on 23-24 June 2011, at the Home for Cooperation in Nicosia’s Buffer Zone. The conference, inaugurated by Lisa Buttenheim, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Cyprus, aimed to strengthen dialogue on innovative approaches to media collaboration, and offer interim solutions for the future of media in Cyprus. Conference proceedings were in English, with simultaneous translation to Greek and Turkish. Download the flyer in English, Greek and Turkish. CCMC welcomes the launch of Anahtar Media

Everyone associated with the Cyprus Community Media Centre (CCMC) was delighted to see the successful launch of Anahtar Media, a joint venture between Radio Astra and Radyo Mayis. The two stations produced their first joint, live, simultaneous, on-location broadcast from the Home for Cooperation on Friday 24 June, to mark the close of the two-day conference organised by the Collaborative Media Initiative.

As the third partner in the Anahtar consortium, CCMC looks forward to contributing further to the initiative in the months to come. It is our belief that the will, determination, and innovation displayed by Astra and Mayis can become an example to others who seek to improve relationships and collaboration with colleagues across the divide in Cyprus. CCMC stands ready to support organisations and individuals from across the island who share the same goals and aspirations.

KISA Film Screening to mark World Refugee Day

welcomeOn the event of World Refugee Day on 20 June, CCMC member KISA are inviting you to an event paying tribute to the day and what it symbolises. Philippe Lioret’s movie ‘Welcome’ (2009) will be screened at the event. The film tells the story of a Kurdish-Iraqi refugee and recounts the effort made ​​and difficulties encountered in trying to go from France to England in order to be reunited with his beloved one.

An open discussion will follow regarding issues affecting refugees, including among others, the current situation and future prospect for action and improvement, especially the possibility to initiate an independent all inclusive self organisation for persons with international protection status. The event will take place at 19:00 at the KISA Cultural Center at the following address:  http://www.kisa.org.cy/EN/contacts/location/index.html (48, Arsinoes Str., 1010 Nicosia). Food and drinks will be available to purchase at low prices.

Peace Players: Basketball summer camp

CCMC member Peace Players have announced a bicommunal camp for children ages 12-15 years old from the 27 of July to the 1 of August at the Rodon Hotel in Agros. The camp is open not only to youth from all PeacePlayers teams but others interested in basketball. The camp cost for each child is €50. The camp is supported by the US Embassy’s Bicommunal Support Program and Laureus Sport For Good Foundation. PeacePlayers- Cyprus uses the game of basketball to facilitate positive dialogue and interaction between Turkish-Cypriot and Greek-Cypriot youth, with the ultimate goal being improved relations between the two communities in Cyprus. PPI-CY aims to break down social and cultural stereotypes, develop young leaders from both sides, and build community involvement and investment.  The main aim of this camp is to teach and train children in the sport of basketball. In addition, children will participate in interactive games for intercultural dialogue and peacebuilding. *** Το Πρόγραμμα Συνεργασίας ΜΜΕ (CMI) διοργανώνει ένα δυήμερο συνέδριο στις 23-24 Ιουνίου 2011 στο Σπίτι της Συνεργασίας στη Λευκωσία, με θέμα ‘Συνεργασία στα ΜΜΕ: Ανταλλάζουμε Εμπειρίες και Προετοιμάζουμε το Έδαφος για το Μέλλον στην Κύπρο’. Την έναρξη του συνεδρίου θα κυρήξει η κα. Λίσα Μπούτενχαιμ, Ειδική Αντιπρόσωπος του Γενικού Γραμματέα ΟΗΕ στην Κύπρο. Το συνέδριο έχει ως κύριο στόχο να ενισχύσει τον διάλογο για καινοτόμες προσεγγίσεις στη συνεργασία των Μέσων, και να προσφέρει μεταβατικές λύσεις για μελλοντικές δράσεις στο χώρο των ΜΜΕ στην Κύπρο. Η εκδήλωση θα πραγματοποιηθεί στην Aγγλική γλώσσα, με ταυτόχρονη μετάφραση στα Ελληνικά και Αγγλικά.

*** Ortak Medya İnisiyatifi (CMI), ‘Medyada İşbirliği: Tecrübelerin Paylaşmı, Kıbrıs’ın Geleceği İçin Zemin Hazırlama’ başlıklı iki günlük bir konferans düzenliyor. 23-24 Haziran 2011 tarihlerinde, Lefkoşa Ara Bölge’deki Dayanışma Evi’nde gerçekleşecek olan konferansın açılışını BM Genel Sekreteri Kıbrıs Özel Temsilcisi Lisa Buttenheim yapacak. Konferansın başlıca amacı, medya işbirliğine yenilikçi yaklaşımın diyaloğunu güçlendirmek ve gelecekte atılacak adımlar için geçici çözümler sunmaktır. İngilizce yapılacak konferansta Yunanca ve Türkçe simultane çeviri sağlanacaktır.
