Bloggers event will generate buzz in the Buffer Zone: 29-30 April 2011.

A two-day bloggers weekend is taking place at the Cyprus Community Media Centre (CCMC) in the heart of Nicosia’s Buffer Zone on Friday and Saturday 29-30 April. Organised by CCMC and the NGO Support Centre, the event will bring together international and local bloggers to share experiences, and attend joint workshops and discussion panels. Supported by the European Commission, Buffer Zone Bloggers is designed to create a shared space for bloggers from across the island and to facilitate discussion on a range of social issues. There will be workshops on blogging, social media, and video activism, as well as discussion panels and film screenings. Visit http://www.digime.org.cy for more info.  “We want to stimulate debate and encourage people to think about the role of social media in raising awareness of key issues,” said Stelios Karagiannopoulos of NGO Support Centre. “We want to reclaim the buffer zone as a space to bring people together.” Two international bloggers will be in Cyprus to run workshops and participate in discussions during the event, and there will also be a live web panel with Egyptian journalists and activists, talking about the role of social media in recent events across the Middle East / North Africa region. There will be activities suitable for both seasoned bloggers and beginners from 09:30-17:00 on both days. Admission is free, but registration is required. To find out more about the full programme and to register, please visit http://www.digime.org.cy. Buffer Zone Bloggers is part of the ‘DigiMe’ project run by NGO Support Centre and CCMC throughout 2011 with the support of the European Commission. DigiMe also includes an upcoming photo and film competition.
