Video Production training at CCMC 2 and 3 February

On Wednesday and Thursday, 2 and 3 February 2011 from 9:00-16:30, twelve participants from Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot civil society organisations attended a workshop at the Cyprus Community Media Centre (CCMC) entitled, “Video Production”. This workshop was conducted as part of CCMC’s mission to support civil society on the island.

The training included a thorough overview of the basic technical and creative skills for capturing video footage. Trainees learnt how to set up their equipment, use tripods, focus their cameras, and also tips on how to make interviewees comfortable, to light and frame their subjects correctly and more. The first day of the course emphasised the background to video production and the technical overview, covering recording formats, use of microphones, composing shots, recording sound and shooting style. Participants then spent the second day putting their new skills into practice with a full day of video shoots, taking place off location around Nicosia.

“As civil society we want to convey the stories of real people and their experiences,” said one of the CCMC members attending. “Nothing is as accessible and direct as video and training such as this gives us a great start to be able to make media ourselves.”

This is the second time CCMC has provided Video Production training for civil society. Its first workshop in April 2010 was oversubscribed and proved very popular. The next upcoming workshops at CCMC include “Media Crisis Management” on 5 February 2011, and “Video Editing on 16 and 17 February 2011.

All sessions take place at CCMC’s Community Space. The premises are on the grounds of Ledra Palace, Nicosia, making it accessible to all the communities of the island. Training is conducted in English, with Greek and Turkish speakers providing language support. For more information, please visit http://www.cypruscommunitymedia.org.
